THE WALK AROUND

A theatre performance for young children
with painted images

Once upon a time…
Once upon a time there was a way…
Once upon a time there was a way when I was little…a long way

So one day I began to walk,
curious to see where the way ended

But the way never ends…

The performance has many themes. You – Me,  ‘Peek-a-boo’. A game of hiding and appearing again. Curiosity and the pleasure of discovering. Walking with no destination….Who am I? Where do I have to go?  Where are you going? What is here,  what is there?

The idea is to create an artistic performance that involves close contact with the young audience from the very beginning.

I explore and share the performance and this gives the children a genuine feeling of being an integral part of the show.

All technique,  music and choreography is minimalist and precise,  with little obvious dialogue…but still,  the universe is discovered and we are discovering together.

The young audience react in many different ways, I catch nuances of their reactions and integrate these into the atmospheric qualities of the performance. My aim during the performance is to maintain contact with the children.

A long paper roll turns into the way around the world. Along the way, meetings with different animals and creatures take place.  There are birds. A frog, a hen, a cat. A lady-bird. Always the same question: “Where are you going to?” I walk on and the world is all around me...

We do not see the animals and creatures,  but their footprints are revealed and transform from paper into landscapes…
all in the light of the sun and the moon.

Here… it is me.
There… the stars.

The circle is complete
and the way infinite….
